Translator

For many years, the Institute of Interpretation, Translation, and Languages has successfully provided preparation courses for the IHK certified translator exam. The successful completion of this exam verifies that the participant has language skills at the C2 level (CEF). The chamber of commerce test is legal proof of proficiency to work as a translator. The exam consists of the following parts:

Written

  • Two translations into the target language
  • Two translations into the original language
  • Essay written in the target language

Oral

  • Conversation in the target language
  • Two translations into the target language          
  • Two translations into the original language

Available target languages are French, Italian, Russian, and Spanish, plus German and English. Participation in a preparatory course is a requirement for entry to the IHK translator exam. The entry requirement for this preparatory course is German language skills at the C1 level, which can be acquired in a preceding C1 course if necessary.
